During pregnancy, physiological adaptations of the thyroid gland are essential to meet the increased metabolic demands of both the mother and the developing fetus. However, serious problems for both the mother and the fetus can result from thyroid disease, especially hypothyroidism. This study's objective is to examine thyroid function during pregnancy, with a particular emphasis on hypothyroidism and the immunological and biochemical markers that are linked to it. The function of thyroid hormones (T3, T4) and regulatory processes involving TSH and hCG are highlighted in this paper. Autoimmune indicators, such as anti-thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO) and anti-thyroglobulin antibodies, are given particular consideration since they are often linked to unfavorable pregnancy outcomes. Additionally assessed were biochemical characteristics such hormone levels, lipid profiles, and glycemia. The results highlight how thyroid dysfunction affects maternal health, fetal neurodevelopment, and pregnancy outcomes. To avoid difficulties, early diagnosis and proper treatment—especially levothyroxine therapy—are essential. The significance of routine thyroid function screening and monitoring throughout pregnancy is highlighted by this study.
