Abstract

عالج هذه المذكرة صورة العربي في ترجمة أنطوان غالان لكتاب ألف ليلة وليلة، بوصفها أول عمل نقل هذا الأثر الشرقي إلى الثقافة الأوروبية. وتهدف إلى تحليل كيفية تمثيل العربي في الترجمة الغالانية، سواء بصورة إيجابية أو سلبية، مع مقارنتها بالنص الأصلي، وذلك من أجل الكشف عن الأبعاد الثقافية والاستشراقية الكامنة في هذه الترجمة. وتخلص الدراسة إلى أن غالان لم يكتفِ بنقل النص لغويًا، بل ساهم، عن قصد أو غير قصد، في تشكيل صورة نمطية للعربي تمزج بين السحر والغرابة من جهة، والنظرة التفوقية الأوروبية من جهة أخرى، وهو ما ترك أثرًا بارزًا في المخيال الغربي وتمثلاته للشرق .This thesis examines the image of the Arab in Antoine Galland’s translation of One Thousand and One Nights, considered the first work to introduce this Eastern masterpiece to European culture. It aims to analyze how the Arab is represented in Galland’s translation—whether in a positive or negative light—by comparing it with the original text. The study seeks to uncover the cultural and Orientalist dimensions embedded in this translation. It concludes that Galland did not merely transfer the text linguistically, but also—whether intentionally or unintentionally—contributed to shaping a stereotypical image of the Arab that blends magic and exoticism with a Eurocentric sense of superiority. This, in turn, had a profound impact on the Western imagination and its representations of the East.
