Résumé:
Excessive use of antibiotics and medications is an important factor that contributes to the onset of different types of resistant microbes and unwanted effects. Consequently, these phenomena lead to an increased disease severity which requires the search for solutions to these problems.
The goal of this study was to evaluate and study antioxidant activity as well as antibacterial activity of a plant which is frequently used as a traditional care: Flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum) and to expose their medical role in human health.
In the experimental part: different scientific works were presented. In these works, the researchers carried out tests for the antioxidant and antibacterial activities of flaxseeds.
First, we explained the chemical composition of flax seeds by the extraction method of Soxhlet and the determination of total polyphenols and flavonoids, antioxidant activity was done by measuring anti-free radical activity using two methods: DPPH scavenging test and Fe2+ reducing power. Antibacterial activity was done by the disk diffusion method and determination of the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) against a very well-known bacterial strains.
According to the results observed, we can say that flaxseeds are riche in phytoestrogens, they have also an anti-free radical and antioxidant potential measured in relation to the antioxidant standard used.
The results of antibacterial activity realized by researchers have shown a very important inhibiting power by the various extracts of flax seeds.
These results of flaxseeds extracts are considered as the most important and promising discovery in pharmaceutical properties.
Further studies should be conducted to reveal flaxseeds action mode, which could be useful in understanding possible roles as antioxidant and antibacterial agents.
