Résumé:
Colorectal cancer is the third cancer in the world in both sexes combined. 400,000 deaths from colorectal cancer are recorded each year. This type of cancer is increasingly a major public health problem in Algeria. Our work is based on a retrospective study with the aim of determining the cases of colorectal cancer across western Algeria. The retrospective study was carried out over a period ranging from 2014 to 2022. The sample includes 306 patients with colon cancer (161 men or 53% and 145 women or 47%).
The results obtained revealed a slight male predominance with a sex ratio of 1.12 a high frequency of malignant involvement of the left colon (67%) compared to the right colon (33%) respectively. According to the Dukes classification,( 74 24%) of patients present with stage C and D tumors. In conclusion, the left colon type dominates in both sexes compared to the location of the right colon. The results obtained at the end of this study only inform us about the epidemiological situation of colon cancer through the wilaya of Mostaganem in Algeria. To this end, it would be very interesting to carry out a nutritional survey in order to determine the important role of diet in the etiology of this type of cancer.
