Evaluation de L’activité Antioxydante Et Antimicrobienne Du Romarin Sec

Abstract

Medicinal plants are an important source of bioactive compounds, particularly polyphenols, which are responsible for many biological activities such as antioxidant and antimicrobial effects. In this study, the ethanolic extract of Rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) was investigated. The main objective was to evaluate the antioxidant capacity of the extract against DPPH free radicals and to determine its IC50 value. Antioxidant activity was further supported by the determination of total phenolic content (TPC) using the Folin–Ciocalteu method, with gallic acid as a standard, and compared with ascorbic acid as a reference antioxidant. In addition, antimicrobial activity was assessed using the agar well diffusion method on Mueller-Hinton agar against two bacterial strains : Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The results showed that rosemary extract exhibits significant antioxidant activity, reflected by DPPH radical scavenging and an interesting IC50 value, along with notable antimicrobial activity. These findings highlight rosemary as a rich source of phenolic compounds with potential applications in pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetic industries. Key
