This study evaluates the efficacy of methanoic extract and Myrtus communis essential oil in controlling aphididae aphids, which are small phytophagous insects. They cause considerable damage in the pepper culture, the species Aphis gossypii and Myzus persicae are the most dominant. In order to combat the aphid, many studies are aimed at finding alternative solutions based on the use of natural products extracted from medicinal plants. The plant chosen for our study is represented by Myrtus communis, a plant commonly distributed worldwide. In fact, it is a medicinal plant used since antiquity for its many therapeutic properties. Extraction of the polyphenols of M. communis was carried out according to the method of Sijith et al. (2011), for the essential oil extraction was done by water vapour training. The yield obtained was 19.7% and 0.80% respectively for methanoic extract and HE. The results showed that the essential oil showed a better efficiency with respect to Myzus persicae compared to the methanoic extract with a LD50 of 5.55% and 9.92% respectively for methanoic extract and HE.en_US
