Abstract
The present study is part of the evaluation of microbiological quality coupled with the analysis of certain physicochemical parameters at the outfall of the Salamandre wastewater treatment plant (western side of Mostaganem). Three sampling campaigns were carried out over a period of three months, from March to May.
The results obtained show a high bacterial concentration at the discharge point, associated with a gradual decrease, particularly 100 meters offshore, during the sampling period. This distribution is influenced by several factors; however, the contamination appears to be related to the absence of tertiary treatment.
The thermal effect of solar radiation proves to be a key factor in the metabolic activity of microorganisms and potentially contributes to their proliferation, particularly under favorable conditions.
The physicochemical parameters reveal low salinity and conductivity associated with high turbidity near the discharge point. A close interaction between environmental conditions and bacterial load was highlighted during the analyses.
