Abstract

This study aimed to identify the extent and manner in which the use of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) affects the development of maximum oxygen consumption (VO₂max) in junior kickboxing players. The researcher adopted the experimental methodology, as it was deemed appropriate for the nature of the research problem. The study sample consisted of 20 kickboxing players, selected purposively from Al-Sumuw Amateur Sports Club for Kickboxing, located in the municipality of Wadi Rahiou, Relizane Province. The sample was divided into two homogeneous and equivalent groups — an experimental group and a control group with ten players in each. The researcher applied training units using the High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) method over a period of Six weeks, at a rate of two sessions per week, in order to ensure adequate recovery between units. This was carried out during the specific preparation phase and the pre-competition phase. Data were collected in the field study by conducting pre-tests and post-tests for both groups, and were processed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), in order to analyze and interpret the obtained results and determine how High-Intensity Interval Training affected the development of maximum oxygen consumption in junior kickboxing players. The researcher ultimately concluded that High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) had a positive effect on developing maximum oxygen consumption (VO₂max) in junior kickboxing players. This was evidenced by the presence of statistically significant differences between the post-test measurements of the experimental and control groups, in favor of the post-test measurement of the experimental group.
