This thesis compares the slave stories written by Frederick Douglass and Harriet Ann Jacobs, two stories written by themselves and showing how slavery and the environment during the rebuilding period created physical and psychological barriers to Black . personal journey of self-discovery through various relationships with others, and his personal history finally serves the great goal of his people, emancipation.
