Abstract
This study aims to assess the physico-chemical water quality of the Oued El Mactaa, its estuary, and the surrounding marine zone, in order to identify the effluents responsible for the pollution. The analysis focused on several physico-chemical parameters, including pH, temperature, conductivity, and turbidity, as well as organic pollution indicators such as nutrient concentrations (nitrates, nitrites).
The results reveal a significant degradation of water quality within the wadi, characterized by a high load of organic matter and nutrients, primarily due to industrial, domestic, and agricultural discharges. At the estuary, a partial dilution of pollutants is observed due to mixing with seawater. However, certain contaminants persist and propagate into the marine environment.
In conclusion, this study highlights the significant impact of effluents on water quality and underscores the need to implement effective management and treatment measures to protect the aquatic environment and public health. This study is divided into three chapters: the first chapter presents marine pollution; the second chapter presents the study site (Oued El Mactaa); and the third chapter presents the physico-chemical parameters, materials and methods, followed by the presentation of results and discussion, where we found [details of findings].
